[mail server won't delete d/l messages]
categorizable by the subject/sender. Then I tried fetchmail -a -F -K again. Same results. Finally, I tried using Netscape Messenger to directly download from the Yahoo! pop server. Somehow, Messenger downloaded 4500+ messages (there's only ~1300+, remember), and unexplicably, 950+ still remain in my Inbox on Yahoo! WTF?
I experianced the same with my *ex* provider. When the d/l broke for any reason I'd d/l all messages again, since delete was obviously done on finish, that under bad conditions never happened.
try the verbose option (-v) to enable the control / protocol messages. Usually you should read something like "message deleted" in between.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that whenever I have had this problem, in the process of trying to 'fix' it, I usually run fetchmail w/ the '-vvv' flag -- i.e. very, very, verbose ;)
One other option -also to prevent enourmous d/l times- is to tell fetchmail to read only the first 100 messages (not sure about the option, could be -b, batchlimit or rather -B 100 or --fetchlimit 100) and after that try again and see wether that helps.
Excellent idea! I'll check it out as soon as I get home. That sounds like it should work, since it seems like the problem always crops up when the mailbox gets pretty good sized, though it has never been even half what the total capacity is (25MB). I've usually ended up shuffling messages around until I get the Inbox down to where it will download correctly _and_ flush, then I go back in via the web interface and feed the other mail folders back into the inbox, and download the messages; one mail box at a time. What a PITA! Anyways, thanks for the idea.
Hellllpppp!!!
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am getting _NO_ response from Yahoo!'s feedback department, nor have I ever in regards to the earlier occurences of this problem.
Hmm. other free e-mail provider?? (i.e. gmx http://www.gmx.de or http://www.gmx.co.uk)
Weeelll... I am kinda bent on using Yahoo! for a couple of reasons 1) 25MB email box for $20/yr (though that's proving more of a headache than anything right now :( ), and I am getting started w/ a home page on Yahoo! Geocities. Yes, my isp provides some space for me, but it's 15MB free vs 5MB, so I'd like to stick w/ Yahoo! for a bit. Any ideas on where the problem may lie? I'm using fetchmail that comes w/ SuSE 6.4, version 5.3.1, I think, and the default sendmail and procmail, configured ala the install-sendmail script I downloaded. Is it possible that something on my end is crapping out at the end of a long download, or could it be Yahoo!? They run FreeBSD and Apache, but I'm not sure what MTA? By now, it's getting to be a kind of grudge thing, that I _WANT_ some response from them, and I'm not going to stop until I get some acknowledgement of my case, and their side of what's going on. Right now, it's as if my feedback's are disappearing into a black hole. :( Monte

Thanks for your time,
