Yes I have, I work for Alaska Largest Cellular carrier, anyway unless the cell sites are uncompress the best speed will be between 2400-9600 Baud. And if the cell site is uncompressed maybe 14,400. For downloading mail it's ok, but for browsing I would try a wireless ISP....I have a Toshiba 470 CDT (SuSE 6.4 with a 3Com 56k/Nic Card. and a nokia 2160 Cellphone and it works great other then the slow speed but for mail who cares....Make sure you get a pcmcia card that is cellular ready, otherwise if you are driving and there is a hand off, the modem will usually hangup, but if it's a cellular ready it won't drop the call. IT also depends on the cell sites congestion..... Patrick Wilke Alaska Communications Systems, Inc. Wireless Division Network Engineer On Sun, 27 Aug 2000, max wrote:
hi, i am planning to put suse on a laptop, and one of the ways to connect to the internet will be to use my cell phone. im sure everyone heard of that being done already. so my question is, will linux and suse particularly be able to do it without much of a hassle? has anyone done this before?
thank you
