I had a similar problem with Netscape 4.75. Try removing the entire cache subdirectory of ~/.netscape. That did it for me. Netscape probably worked when you logged in as root because root didn't have a cache. Likely explanation: the cache contains something that Netscape 4.72 doesn't recognize, and its error handling is [explitive deleted].
