Hello,
I am one of the Linux users at work. We have a printer hooked up to a Windows computer. The Windows computer serves as the server. I have no ability to print to this printer at all from a GUI. Why? At present, I have to print to a .ps file format. Change the file to ghost script. Use a smb command to the printer and send the file to the printer. I just want to click on the button print. I tried setting up the configuration for network printer in YAST. Didn't do anything.
Help! This problem is forcing me to use Windows. Anyone have experience with this?
George
Hi George, usually the setup with yast works. It involves a small script "samba_print". This doesn't take care wether there is a connection to the win machine, it might end up that your job is just gone. This script can be enabled to logging (remove a comment) and have a look at the error messages. I found a flaw there, it is basicly relying on authentication on the local windows box, maybe *non encripted* passwords. All changes if you authenticate via a PDC and dont have a local account... I need to do more digging on that, but hope to point you to a general direction.
