I have now removed that CD Writer and installed a Mirai SCSI writer but going through Yast and the support database I cannot find any reference to how I can get the SCSI support into my existing set up.
6.4 SuSE? That should have detected any SCSI adapters and loaded appropriate kernel modules when rebooting. (And resulted in some boot messages.)
