Hi,
Also, what tool should I use for configuring X?
I tried sax2, but it gives some weird error message, waits for a while, then starts up only to exit 10 seconds later.
Jon.
You could run (as root) XF86Setup.(sort of graphical) Or, if you are a real hairy-chested Unix-type dude, XF86Config.(Not graphical. Have a list of appropriate numbers and settings for video card & monitor handy) Sax is great, but this is how we did it back in the dark days, when the bears were bad! :-) --
Donnie, Donnie, Real men read the man pages and write their own XF86Config! Least that's how I did it the first time. Well... sort of... ;-) It may take some time, and it's not the easiest stuff to understand, but when I first started with Linux I had to tweak my video to get a decent refresh. I don't remember the exact name, but there is a howto on setting up XF86Config which I found useful. On strategy is to find someone who has similar hardware and has already worked it out. Have that person shoot you their XF86Config. I just upgraded to XF86 4.0, and I didn't have to touch a thing on the video config. I was looking for 4.0.1 for SuSE in RPM 'cause I didn't feel like going through the hustle of figuring out the SuSE specific idiosyncrasies in configuration. Perhaps I will wait till 7.0 hits the distribution channels. Sep 21st????
