hi all,
my sound card is down, so i run alsaconf. Unfortunately, it cannot trace my sound card. surprising my sound card is in the list "generic cs4235". however there's no option for me to select the sound card, the only thing i can do is exit from alsaconf.- the version that i'm using is "alsaconf v.0.5.5a".
is there anyway i can get my soundcard to work? Pls help & thanks in advance.

I use alsa-cvs. Checkout alsa-driver, alsa-lib, alsa-utils and alsa-conf modules. Compile alsa-driver: ./cvscompile --with-isapnp=no --with-debug=full --with-sequencer=yes --with-oss=yes --with-cards=emu10k1, share, virmidi, dummy, sbawe make install ./snddevices I need snd-synth-emu8000 module so I throw the sbawe card in even though my card is SB Live! If you have iaspnp answer yes, but I don't use isa so I don't know. Compile alsa-lib: ./cvscompile make install Compile alsa-utils: ./cvscompile make install Compile alsa-conf: ./cvscompile make install Now run alsaconf to generate alsa-modules.conf. I take alsa-modules.conf and stick it in modules.conf. Comment out any alsa configuration stuff in modules.conf. Run alsamixer and turn volume on because it is muted after install. You can save your mixer settings with "alsactl store" just to make sure you don't get any warning messages because of "alsactl restore" when rebooting. You are using cs4235 and I don't know the correct alsa name for that card so you will have to check www.alsa.org for any modules.conf or other documentation with the name of your card . When configuring always make your soundcard card 0. I don't know how to set up midi with your card if you have a wavetable synth and I don't know how tho set up more than one card either. You will find the alsa-conf in cvs is very good compared to 0.5.5a. Good luck compiling it. If you configure incorrectly you may get kernel oops. seg fault or busy and you will have to debug your modules.conf. I am using 2.4.0-test7 w/suse libc-2.1.3-91 and gcc-2.95.2-51. So I think your problem might be that the driver for your card is not installed even though if you just compile w/out any options every driver available w/alsa should be generated. This might be the reason why it is not showing up in 0.5.5a. Did you check in /lib/modules/2.x.xx/misc/ or whereever your modules are installed to see if your cs4235 module was in there? If I am wrong you still get a better alsaconf. kmb -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
