Congratulations by your success on the NIC setup, downloading kernel modules and compiling the Kernel included.
Thanks, but without your help and Mark Gray's help, I certainly would not have been able to get the network setup working last Sunday. --That's the great thing about open source projects and mailing lists like this!--
I'm much pleased to have the opportunity to help, you are great!! =`8)
[* depmod......(ref: SuSE 6.4 PDF book)
If it does not work You could give a try to depmod, using info from "man depmod". But the chance of not working is not near INMHO, i think will be resolved on second boot after the START KERNELD solution, because it fires internally the _depmod_ util.
I checked my /etc/rc.config and found that the `START KERNELD=yes' then went on to Nicholas's mail (Nicholas
) threaded below and saw that the modules.dep file was, indeed, time-stamped later that the rc.config file.
Can't see Nicholas's mail threaded on [SLE] not on my file, nor on: "English SuSE Linux Discussions: By Thread" at: http://lists.suse.com/archives/suse-linux-e/2000-Aug/ , may it be that he posted you private?? But any way, [Congratulations] again for your success!! =`8)
So, another data-point to file away:-)
This was your effort.
