Hi again Gary,
Congratulations by your success on the NIC setup, downloading kernel modules and compiling the Kernel included.
Thanks, but without your help and Mark Gray's help, I certainly would not have been able to get the network setup working last Sunday. --That's the great thing about open source projects and mailing lists like this!--
On SuSE 6.4 PDF book, under chapter 13 "The Kernel" it talks in 13.2 Kernel Modules about the issue. It states: Handling Modules [* depmod Creates the file modules.dep in /lib/modules/<version> where dependencies of all of the modules are defined. This is necessary to ensure that all dependent modules are loaded along with the selected ones. If START KERNELD is set in /etc/rc.config, this file is created each time the system is started.]
If it does not work You could give a try to depmod, using info from "man depmod". But the chance of not working is not near INMHO, i think will be resolved on second boot after the START KERNELD solution, because it fires internally the _depmod_ util.
I checked my /etc/rc.config and found that the `START KERNELD=yes'
then went on to Nicholas's mail (Nicholas
