Not me, but version numbering has quite a history to it, and more and more companies are disregarding common practices. Hey, why not make it 8.0 right now? Maybe new users will think that it's a step ahead of RH and many steps ahead of Debian.
Didn't think so! IIRC the initial mention from SuSE was that 7.0 would have both the new kernel *and* the stable XFree 4.x. Apparently neither of these were ready in time, but the Marketing plan was already in motion. Would you rather they included an unknown *major* component or two (kernel + X)? I know I wouldn't! Top marks to SuSE for not taking the easy way out and giving us what we seem to want (now), but would only bitch about (later). --
It's simple, it should be 6.5 with no arguments. It's not a major revision. If a company is just going to match version numbers with years than they should go the MS route and call it SuSE Linux 2000. It's not a 7.0 release.
