I would love to be able to run VMware on my box. I was extremely impressed with the 30 days use I had of it. But to buy it for $300? There's no way I can justify that to myself (or my wife). It's just too expensive. It's *at least* the equivalent of a new mobo + chip + mem and it would mean that I wouldn't be able to buy each new ver of SuSE as it comes out nor would I be able to keep adding to my library of linux books as I can now.
Vmware for home (hobbist) use is 99USD. That's about 66GBP at current exchange rates. In the snippet quoted below you say you'd buy it for that!
Perhaps if SuSE could possibly do a deal along the lines of reg'd SuSE users get it at $100 (even that's a bit steep but I'd be willing to bite the bullet and save up for it). I should imagine too that that it wouldn't cost a lot to advertise this either. The L. Journal, L. Gazette et al would certainly splash this around.
What do you think Michael? Would your marketting people go for a suggestion like that? But, more importantly, are they cheeky enough to approach VMware?
SuSE and Vmware clearly have a relationship of some sort. You can buy Vmware with SuSE on a preinstalled VM if you want it.
