I have Suse 6.3 with SMC 9432 BTX network card. It is detected as EPIC100, eth0. The hardware looks like working normally, modprobe works, ifconfig looks like ok. When booting the system, the network card initialization looks like ready.
If I try to ping myself, or telnet myself, it is ok. The led on my HUB is green, it means 100 mbs connection to the net is ok.
But if i try to ping or telnet any other machine on the network, i can get a message: network unreachable.
With suse 5.0 (it was the last OS on this machine) there was no problem with the card.
PLease, help me... It is not to good to work a nice linux config without net :))) I have totally Windows feeling :))))
Sorry for the lamer question, but I am now learning my Linux secrets.
Hi Gabor, the problem is probably not the card, but the configuration. Without any additional information, it is difficult to say, what is wrong. You might try to use the comand "ifconfig" to see, how the card is configured. If it looks OK, try to ping another host on the same sub-net using it's IP number. Than try a host on another sub-net using the IP number and finaly a host using it's name. Please mail the result of the tests, should help to find the problem.
