John Nickerson
I've been trying to keep up with kernel advances by compiling new releases of lx_suse. I've not had any problems going to from the original 2.2.10 to 2.2.12 to 2.2.14. However I cannot find my ethernet card listed in the 2.2.16_SuSE rpm (lx_suse-2.2.16.SuSE-8) that I got from the 6.4 directory at ftp.suse.com.
I'm using an Allied Telesyn AT-2500TX NIC which uses the RTL8139 driver module. This module/NIC is not in the .config file for 2.2.16 but it is listed in the .config files for prior releases.
markgray@soyo /usr/src/linux > grep RTL8139 .config CONFIG_RTL8139=m markgray@soyo /usr/src/linux > rpm -q lx_suse.rpm lx_suse-2.2.16.SuSE-8 It was included in the .config that came with the kernel I compiled. Something odd is going on -- you are probably not correctly selecting the subsection of the .config file that deals with that type of ether card. I always copy the vmlinuz.config file that comes with the compiled version of the kernel to .config so that I know what configuration SuSE chose to use when I configure and compile my own kernel.
