There are some EFNet servers that you can try that might not pick up the lack of ident. irc.freei.net (Slim chance to it being open) irc.primenet.com irc.prison.net irc.mcs.net irc.concentric.net One of them 5 always seem to have let me on when I didnt have ident running. Robert K. Davies

Hello, all.
I am having a bit of trouble getting connected to irc servers, it seems.
I am getting the following messages in the window of X-Chat:
Connected. Now logging in.. AUTH :*** Looking up your hostname... AUTH :*** Found your hostname, cached AUTH :*** Checking Ident AUTH :*** No Ident response Closing Link: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (You are not authorized to use this server) Disconnected.
Now it would appear that since I am behind a firewall, the irc servers can't get a ident response, and are dropping my connection. Thus I can't seem to get onto EFnet, among others. Is this normal. Also, how do I go about getting around this, as I was under the impression that ident is not the best thing to leave running anyway, for security reasons. I am behind a firewall, which is probably blocking these queries in the first place, but I'm not sure I want to be 'forced' to run ident, in any event.
There are other servers (which don't carry the channel I'm looking for, unfortunately), which do allow logon w/o an ident responce from my pc... they just use the one from my isp account.
Any ideas on how to get on to EFnet w/ this situation?
Thanks for your time,
Monte
