I have downloaded directory /pub/suse/i386/update/6.4 from ftp.suse.com and put it on my harddisk.
Is there any way to use the installation CD and/or YaST to perform an automatic upate of my system (SuSE 6.4) using this directory?

From YaST: Adjustments of installation -> Select installation medium -> Installation from a reachable directory

Of course it doesn't. You arent' installing. You're updating. To do that from YaST: Choose/Install packages -> Install package -> Source: (none) -> Directory -> /path/to/your/update directories To do an install from a directory, you must have the entire install setup mirrored including especially the scripts and description files, but you're not installing.
