Hi all,
I have 2 Linux boxes on my intranet, an SuSe 6.4 and a Redhat 6.2 ... On the SuSe box, i am allowed to use the halt and reboot commands only as root/superuser, which is as it should be ( i think )
yes it should. What are the permissions on the files involved? Are they SERSUID ?
On the Redhat box, *any* user can execute these commands after entering his/her password .... how can i control this ?
There's another problem, it usually reboots after the 1st halt command and powers off only at the second attempt .............is this normal ? Can this be rectified ?
I've seen that the use of these commands switches to singel mode on some systems. For fun try "init 0" for halt or "init 6" for reboot. shutdown and halt call this in the end, but with further options and checking from their scripts.
PS I am asking these questions on this List, only because the SMART Redhat-list has unsubscribed me for some unknown reason ( i am still working this out with their Listmaster )...
Did you mention being a member of this list there?? ;-) (just kidding) Juergen -- =========================================== __ _ Juergen Braukmann juergen.braukmann@gmx.de| -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Tel: 0201-743648 dk4jb@db0qs.#nrw.deu.eu | /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ===========================================_\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
