This isn't OS-specific, but it may explain why my 29160 and SCSI doesn't work (things hang forever) with my current SuSE 6.4 system.
The Adaptec 29160 fits into one of the PCI slots, but about half of the connectors are not attached to anything. They are just hanging out the end. I'm definitely *not* hardware savvy, so if there has been a New 64-bit (or whatever) PCI standard, that may be the issue. Does anyone on the list understand why my
I have an '98 vintage Alpha that has both 32 and 64 bit pci slots and know that you can use the 32 bit cards in the longer 64 bit slots. Unfortunately I have no 64 bit cards and connot confirm whether those cards will work with the shorter slots, but it may be that they won't. You could try digging around some of the alpha sites to see if anyone has more experience with the 64 bit cards.
% modprobe aix7xxx
command (and others relating to this SCSI+IDE problem might cause the OS to hang?
I don't have the previous messages in the thread so I'm not sure of your problem but is it possible it's trying to load the driver twice? I had mine hang when the module was loaded by initrd on top of a kernel which I had compiled in support for my adaptec 2940U2W. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
