Up to now, I have used SuSE for file- and mail-servers. Now I want to use it to print too. The printer is a HP LaserJet 5L. The linux distribution is SuSE 6.4 (same problem experienced wit 6.3). When I boot the PC with a windows start-disk, I can copy a file to lpt1, and it is received in the printer. I have tried to install a RedHat 6.2, and printing worked. On SuSE I have installed a ljet4 printer with Yast. At boot and shutdown, lpd is started an shutdown. On SuSE nothing happens, when I try echo hello > /dev/lp0 lpc status says queing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present tunelp /dev/lp0 -s says /dev/lp0 status is 255, uot of paper, on-line What to try??? ...
