IIRC, a hard drive can only contain four primary partitions. Everything beyond them (hda5, +...) is an extended partition. DOS can only go in the primary partitions, whereas Linux can go in the extended. Since I don't have DOS/Windows at all, my Linux partition is hda3 (i.e., C: in DOS). david. -- Give liz take!
