Hi Liane,
I'm pretty new to Linux myself so hope this helps.
When Linux splits up your drive (or you partition it) linux uses
hda1 windows (c drive in dos) hda5 partition 2 (windows or linux) hda6 partition 3 " " hda7 partition 4 " " hda8 partition 5 " " etc,
On my machine my kfstab looks like this :-
/dev/hda1 /windows vfat rw,user 0 0 /dev/hda5 /windows-d vfat rw,user 0 0 /dev/hda6 /boot ext defaults 1 1 /dev/hda7 /swap swap dafaults 0 1 /dev/hda8 / ext 1 2
Notice hda2,3,4 are missing, hda2 I assume to be the second partition before its spilt in to logical drives. Linux starts counting at 5 for the second partition onwards.
