"Phil Shrimpton"
I much prefer a small push than a gift-wrapped box.
I understand the point and even agree. However, there are _so_ many things to do nowadays, that I really appreciate gifts. There will always be a lot and plenty of opportunities to feel pushed and learn! :-) It is true that, quite a while ago, there was a lot of dubious code floating around, and one was just better rewriting most of the needed things, than debug or otherwise dive in un-nice code. But things have been changing for the better, for dozens of years now, good programming examples just abound, it is quite usual that contributed code is just worth taking as is, or almost. Sharing and taking is often a very sensible thing to do.
