Hi, I have the same Intel P III chipset with AD 1881 AC 97 Codec Audio controller. I tried OSS limited evaluation version which was successful, but it stopped working after around 20 minutes( evaluation period). So, i downloaded the ALSA 0.5.7 driver and utilities versions (.bz2 tar files) from ALSA site (not to mention alsaconf 0.4.2b also) and compiled the same on my SuSE 6.3 (2.2.13 kernel) version. It is working beautifully! I am able to hear mp3 songs on my system now, but i haven't explored all other options with ALSA 0.5.7. Raghav "Alvaro A. Novo" wrote:

Also, searching through past postings, I could find some references (mostly german... even after "online translation" was hard!), but I am still a bit clueless. Does anyone have experience with such sound "card"?
I have a manufacturer driver, but it's for earlier kernel versions. Also, I would like to avoid a $30 fee to Opensound (OSS)... asking too much? Hope not!
Thanks a zillion,
