Hi list, I haven't used xhost in ages since in 99% of all cases I am quite happy with ssh where I don't need it to establish an X-connection. Now, unfortunately, there lives an uncooperative piece of software on one of the computers at work which dies when I call it up with the error: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. Rejected connection: X11 connection from yellow port 63740 XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server "(null)" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown or KillClient. Other programs that use X load without problem (for example xv), though. I thought I should try it with the old method and redirecting the DISPLAY variable. Of course in order for this to work I need to set % xhost qtp.ufl.edu where qtp.ufl.edu happens to be the name of the machine at work that I log in to. Unfortunately, there is a problem with this command on my SuSE 6.4 system at home as the following sequence tells:
xhost qtp.ufl.edu qtp.ufl.edu being added to access control list xhost: must be on local machine to add or remove hosts.
Can anyone enlighten on me what the xhost error means? It certainly doesn't work anymore as intended as xv will blow up with the error: angerhof@crunch (~) >Xlib: connection to "128.227.250.184:0.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server xv: Can't open display [1] + Done(1) xv & 128.227.250.184 is of course the dynamic IP number that I was using to log on to qtp.ufl.edu. What might be the cure? I am running a regular KDE desktop and the command was issued from one of the xterm's that I keep open.
