2) go to /usr/lib/emu10k1-0.4.SuSE and run the installation script, which reports that the driver is installed. I can see the line "alias sound emu10k1" inserted in /etc/conf.modules and sound works.
Did you read http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/swgkern_soundlive.html ? In my case it was the missing lias 'char-major-14 emu10k1' in /etc/modules.conf which resolved it.
