Hello zentara, on Monday, May 22, 2000 at 18:05:19 -0400, you sat in front of your keyboard and wrote:
Hi, I am one of those stuck with the 8 meg onboard sis6326 video card. Well with the svga xserver shipped with suse6.4, 4 megs of video ram is lost. This is some kind of bug in the XFree86 server, which is supposed to be fixed in the next release.
I did get the full 8 megs under the xserver shipped with suse 6.0. I copied the suse6.0 svga server over the one distributed with suse6.4 and it works ,giving the full 8 megs of video ram. The difference in video speed is noticable. I havn't noticed any problems running it under the newer XFree86.
Try it if you have a sis6326. If anyone sees a potential problem with this, let me know please.
Have you tried to edit manually the file /etc/XF86Config?
If not, you can edit it and in the section "Device" relating to your video
card, try to put:
VideoRam 8192
I had the same problem with SuSE 6.2 and that worked for me.
