I recently rebuilt my kernel eliminating a lot of stuff I don't need. After building and successfully booting, I discovered that I missed a lot of stuff so I rebuilt. I usually use make bzlilo followed by make modules and make modules_install. In the second case when I rebooted, the mouse became extremely slow (nearly frozen). I use a logitech marble mouse trackball via the ps/2 port. I reviewed my changes and did not see anything that gave me a clue, so I booted my previous kernel, which booted and performed ok. (I keep several kernels and maps in /boot so I don't paint myself in too many corners). I then copied the old kernel: cd /boot cp -p vmlinuz.old vmlinuz cp -p System.old-2.2.14 System.map-2.2.14 Rebooted and had the same slow mouse problem. I then shutdown, booted the .old kernel successfully. Checked my .config, made a few more changes, rebuilt and booted ok. One difference was the old kernel was built with 586 and the new was with 686 (I have a PII 233). The latest kernel I built works fine. I really don't have a clue what would cause the mouse to freeze. -- Jerry Feldman Contractor, eInfrastructure Partner Engineering 508-467-4315 http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/linux/ Compaq Computer Corp. 200 Forest Street MRO1-3/F1 Marlboro, Ma. 01752 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
