I updated my SuSE 6.1 system with the 2.2.14 kernel on the FTP site to fix the IP masquerading vulnerability (and so I can play Quake 3, let's be honest). It generally works well. The BogoMIPS figure nearly doubled without the clock speed changing. Interesting. My big problem is my Seagate STT20000A, ATAPI TAPE drive. It is getting errors and sometimes backups seem to hang, with dump still running hours after being invoked at five in the morning. The "mt status" command reports it as a "generic scsi-2" drive. Nothing in my system is SCSI. I think I have all the SCSI options disabled in the kernel .config file. I downdated to the 2.2.7 kernel off the SuSE FTP site and things seem to be fine. "mt status" reports drive type as 0. Any suggestions?
