I think you're wrong, startkde script in SuSE is in /opt/kde/bin In other distribution maybe on that..

I just checked, there is an original copy of startkde at /opt/kde/bin, but that
is not the one that gets used. The /usr/X11R6/bin/startkde is the one that
gets implemented (/usr/X11R6/bin is the location of most Window Manager start
scripts).
