Have just reinstalled staroffice from the SuSE 6.3 CD's. As a user I can't add my type 1 fonts in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1. It just seems to ignore the type1 directory. Root can install use and print all the fonts without trouble.
Anyone had the same? Must be to do with permissions but just thought that there maybe a simple solution.
I'm using a version of Star Office that I downloaded from Sun. It includes a couple of items that might not be in the SuSE distribution: the printer administration program spadmin and the installation manual (setup.pdf or something like that). You can use the spadmin program to install Type 1 fonts. Note that the fonts available for printing are, in general, a subset of those available for viewing; to see the difference, open a new HTML document and a new text document and compare the font lists. The installation manual has some instructions on font installation, although they're written in fractured English that is sometimes hard to interpret (e.g., ``You'll only have disposal of the fonts which do make sense for each application.''). But you might be best off to twiddle the SO configuration files directly. For a particular font, you need to have the .afm (Adobe Font Metrics) file in: Office51/xp3/fontmetrics/afm The fonts available for the printer are listed in: Office51/xp3/ppds/SGENPRT.PS (or a similarly located file if you're using a different printer than the default). Finally, the .pfb or .pfa files for the screen fonts are found in: Office51/xp3/pssoftfonts You should use the fonts already listed there as a model for what you need to insert. All this assumes that the fonts are available to X. You can use the gfontview program to check that.
