With SuSE 6.2 I ran a local mail-server for the users accessing this system. Since installing 6.4, I have tried very hard setting up the same mail-server function without any luck. I can send mail (using sendmail), but fetchmail only tries to get the mail from my ISP and then halts, with an error message about SMTP transactions with localhost did not go well. I assume that it is my own localhost weŽre talking about here. The symptoms are also: I can telnet to localhost and linuxpc.hjemme.her (the systemsŽ FQDN) fine, but I cannot telnet neither port 25 or 110 on these hosts (same system), and both kmail and Netscape Messenger says that localhost cannot be found as a mailserver. For now, I have not changed the default adress for linuxpc.hjemme.her, created by running SuSEconfig, which is 127.0.0.2. I am very much in doubt whether it is a service or a package I am missing here. I should say that I am not trying to run DNS or any proxy or firewall at this time. At one point I tried installing the package pop, but this made things much worse. I can send and recieve mail locally between the systemsŽ own users just fine. I am already running fetchmail in verbose mode, so I cannot think of any way to get more specific error messages. Could anyone here think of something that I might be missing?
