Hi Herman, Thanks for your info. I am able to get the boot message from the serial console now. However, I must recompile the kernel in order to do that. I've noticed that when the serial port is compile into module, the variable CONFIG_CONSOLE_SERIAL is not set. That is why using suse default kernel with serial module cannot have boot messages to serial console. Can the people from Suse kindly enable this feature when compiling the serial module? This will helps alot for those who wants to have serial console. Thanks. regards, Wayne Chan Thank Herman Knief wrote:
Hi Wayne,
I've gotten this to work, for a full console to appear on com2 here's what I did...
Added to /etc/lilo.conf: serial=1,9600n8 append = "console=tty0 console=ttyS1,9600n8" Added to /etc/inittab: S1:123:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS1 vt100
Don't forget to run lilo from the command line to reload the conf file. Now, one thing to check is this... I have a custom kernel. If you're using SuSE's kernel, try these changes and reboot. If you still can't get it to work right, re-compile your kernel with serial console support, install it and re-run lilo. Then edit your /etc/modules.conf to disable module loading for the com ports: alias char-major-4 off alias char-major-5 off
Run "depmod -a" and then reboot again.
Let me know how it works...
