Hello, all. I just got my 6.4 cd set in the mail yesterday, and went about setting it up. Pretty nice. The sound setup didn't work, but I used the OSS drivers and all was well. I about fell out of my chair when I saw the configuration screen and it actually recognized my printer as a HP 720c (it's a 722c, but essentially the same). I thought, 'My god, is there finally a distribution that will actually set this thing up right from the scratch?' Unfortunately, the answer was 'No!'. The winprinters that HP produced were not listed anywhere in the config menus. Rather disappointing, after getting my hopes up. Oh, well. Has anyone _recently_ set up one of these printers w/ the new version of pnm2ppa? The new drivers make it possible to print up to 600x600 dpi color. I just came back to SuSE after a stint in the Mandrake arena, and it was as simple as downloading and installing a Mandrake version of pnm2ppa and rhprintfilters, and then running printtool to configure the filters for the HP722c. I just checked the pnm2ppa page at SourceForge, and they have RedHat, Caldera, Mandrake, and Debian packages, but no SuSE packages! WTF? Is there any of these that may work w/o too much pain? I really need my printer working. I could bring the Epson Stylus 640 back down to this computer, but at least in Mandrake, the HP722c w/ the new drivers worked better than the Epson did! Crap like feeding pages crooked, making loud noises while running, slamming into the end stops, and (I presume) slipping over the teeth on the wheels, resulting in the picture or text being all over the page, when it was even _on_ the page. It was really bizarre. And no, it doesn't do that in Win98. Must be something w/ the linux drivers, but no one that I could find had heard of such problems. Anyway, if anyone has had any luck setting up one of these printers w/ the new drivers, let me know. Thanks for your time, Monte ===== "Here, catch!
