Is the netbui protocol loaded on every client machine? AFAIK you need it to see the samba server. Cheers, Vincent

Have you set passwrod encryption to notrmal/polian text ?
win95 sr2 and win98 use encrypted pass words ect... SO you need to either turn it off (edit the registry or use the samba tool from samba.org) or download and install the encryption stuff and set it up on the samba se4rver.
You can diagnose this by setting one machine to plian text , if it fixes it your set to go.
One other thing is on 6.2 and up nI think , you need to turn off the dummie devise in yast under system settings aor edit one iof the files to diusable it. It bay be with 6.0 as well I just cant rember wich version. I had to roll back the server till some one else figured out the pronblem with the dummy device interfearing with samba and NWN ect...
Ok ok...just a couple of questions. I have a Suse 6.0 server for almost everything...web server, NFS server, Samba Server and so on so on... Ok...I managed to setup and run samba version 1.9 i believe....so I can see the server name from the Windows 98 clients....no all of

is only from selected clients...allthought most of the clients that run w98 have the same TCP/IP settings. Why is that?? Any reason...I am sure the Domain has nothing to do with that.
Then I can see only a few of the W98 machines from the Samba server. Why?? And they are not even from the same workgroup...in fact the workgroup appears empty.
As I said I can see the the Samba server from a few W98 machines and when I go to access the public directory that I have set up it asks me for a password...as it should do. But since this bull**** with encrypted and unencrypted password use between W98 and Samba I cannot log in. Of course I add the apporpriate lines
encrypt passwords = yes smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd
to the /etc/smb.conf file but when I reload smb the server dissapears completely from every machine...it is unavailable. I can always adjust the registry of the w98 machines but they are many many many so i need to do the modifications on the server...what's the solution?
Thanx...
