Ahem, talking to myself :-) Bcc: Jeff, Guy (so mail addresses don't appear on the html pages of websearchable mailling list) At 2000-05-09 17:02, Eric Maryniak wrote:
Who has the best success story on using Zope (2.1.6?!) on SuSE Linux 6.3 (or 6.4)? :-)
And: did you use the ZServer or Apache, and if Apache, did you use...: FastCGI, PCGI, Proxy, ..., ?
I've studied the various howto's (there are several, and somewhat conflicting) on zope.org, and notes on StarShip, http://starship.python.net/crew/jrush/Zope/Zope216.html that has RPM's for Red Hat 6.2, and am not sure which method to use, because: a) we already have a lot of "static" html pages, which are to be gradually zope-ed, but not right away b) zope should not become / (and the static pages /static), because a lot of people have bookmarked the old url's c) on some pages we want to use ssl (which works fine with apache but not with Zope ZServer... (?)
It would seem, judging from Guy Davis' (recent) notes:
http://www.zope.org/Members/guy_davis/install_routes/#zserver
that Apache+Zope via PCGI is the best way (at least for
the relative novice): "... My Solution - After a couple of days
and with much help, I was able to get Zope working with Apache
through PCGI. All the other methods had drawbacks or didn't work
for me, so I'd have to recommend PCGI for Apache users. ...".
I also got an e-mail from Jeff and he said he doesn't know if his
rpm's work with SuSE, and that "... The only area of difference
might be the SysVinit stuff in /etc/rc.d/init.d/zope, which I
wrote myself. ..."
So I'll just go and try it, and keep you all posted :-)
Does SuSE have any plans to make Zope rpm's? I'd like to know!
Bye-bye,
