Reinstall of 6.4......did what I usually do, NIC is recognized and samba is running with the usual, but I can't ping my other machine (win98) and it can't ping me. I have recently started using wvdial-od and have begun messing about with firewalling. (Use Mason, and I don't think anything is blocked at this point) Where should I look for what might be stopping ping? All the normal entries have been put in their appropriate files. This is a new one for me. I could always count on ping. I do not have any routing going, nor ipmasq, AFIK.
Well, the first thing you should do is check you routing table ('route') and make sure you've got the IP address you think you have ('ifconfig'). If there doesn't seem to be a problem with that, check your firewalling rules ('ipchains -L') to see if your pings to the other computer are not being blocked. If you're unsure of whether the output you get is correct, post it to the list, along with some basic information about your setup. One last thing - are there any other machines on your network that you can use to test whether the Win98 and Linux machines are set up correctly? And have you checked the network cables to make sure they're plugged in correctly? ;-) See how you get on, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
