I have the boxed 6 cd set of SuSe 6.3 and I want to get the sound working. On page 261 of the manual, you are instructed to install oss or ossdemo of the series pay and neither is there. The package has been registered so it is fully functional. Where are they?

Joseph, OSS is in the "pay" section. Don't load the demo. There is a fully functional OSS on the CD. I believe you may need to get the lattest kernels form the SuSE update site to make this work. They also have an updated ALSA driver out there, but I haven't had a chance to get it working. The pain about OSS is that everytime you upgrad the kernel, you need to upgrade the OSS. I once paid for OSS just to get around that, no I can't find the license number. If you can get ALSA to work, it's probably your best bet. If you can't get OSS to start, look in the log files. I don't remember the exact names, but I believe they will both be in the place you install OSS to. Do a `locate soundon` to find the install directory if you forget where you put it. My experience was that the error message telling me why the thing wouldn't work flashed up and dissapeared so fast I couldn't read it. It wanted a linux.2.2.14-UP kernel. My kernel was reporting 2.2.14, without the -UP.
