I've got a new Dell 5000 laptop and I'm having trouble getting sound out of it using Alsa. I'm running SuSE-6.3 which carries an old version of Alsa which doesn't support the Maestro sound card, so I got the latest version via Freshmeat. Following the ALSA-HOWTO, I load the modules using 'modprobe snd-card-es1968' and 'modprobe snd-pcm-oss' and all the device files appear as expected. When I try to 'cat largefile.txt > /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p' I get an error saying "cat: write error: File descriptor in bad state".
