Hi, I downloaded the latest driver version from ALSA (0.5.7) and compiled on 6.3 Kernel version 2.2.13. I was able to run alsaconf on my m/c and it detected the card. The output is as follows. Output of /dev/asound/cards 0 [CARD_0 ]: ICH - Intel ICH 82801AA Intel ICH 82801AA at 0xd800, irq 5 Output of /dev/asound/devices 0: [0] : control 6: [0- 0]: mixer 16: [0- 0]: digital audio playback 24: [0- 0]: digital audio capture 33: : timer Output of lsmod Module Size Used by soundcore 2340 0 (autoclean) (unused) snd-card-intel8x0 2116 0 snd-intel8x0 5840 0 [snd-card-intel8x0] snd-pcm 28472 0 [snd-intel8x0] snd-timer 8384 0 [snd-pcm] snd-ac97-codec 22912 0 [snd-intel8x0] snd-mixer 26192 0 [snd-ac97-codec] snd 28448 2 [snd-card-intel8x0 snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-mixer] serial 42932 0 (autoclean) memstat 1604 0 (unused) agpgart 4196 1 The lines in /etc/conf.modules for the Intel 810 sound card are # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 0.4.3b --- alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-card-intel8x0 alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0660 snd_device_gid=17 snd_device_uid=0 options snd-card-intel8x0 snd_index=0 snd_id=CARD_0 snd_pbk_frame_size=128 snd_cap_frame_size=128 snd_mic_frame_size=128 # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- But when i check for the sound device by giving cat /dev/sndstat, it prompts "no such device" I am not able to get any sound. Also, when i reboot the m/c, the kernel recognises the sound card, but the kernel outputs some warnings like Apr 30 16:24:57 alpha kernel: PCI: Increasing latency timer of device 00:fd to 64 Apr 30 16:24:57 alpha kernel: snd: card is out of range (0-0) Apr 30 16:25:22 alpha modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-3 What can be the problem?? Please provide some info!! Raghav "S.Toms" wrote:

I believe its a soundblaster compatible, and theres two ways to do it, one way is to use OSS which is all software based and available on the suse distro CD's, the other way is to compile the kernel with sound built in or as a module. I've always gone the later route and currently have it compiled as a module on my system. Take a look at the menuconfig for the kernel, especially the sound section, you should find all sorts of choices as well as a SB compatible choice, can't quite recall if theres actually a choice which refers to the 810 board itself though.
