The '1D' is a time-to-live (ttl) value. Every record can have one of these...most people just use the minimum specified by the SOA. In your named.conf, you probably have a line that says 'notify = yes'... if so, then your master will notify all other NS entries in your zone, when a reload is performed. - Herman Bill Moseley wrote:
Really two questions. First the zone files that came with SuSE setup have entries that look like this:
localhost 1D IN A 127.0.0.1 ^^ What's the 1D for above? I couldn't find that in the DNS and Bind book.
Second question: When I change a zone file on my master, it looks like the master notifies the slave. I didn't specify in any of the master config files the name of the slave DNS server, so how does it know who to contact? Does the slave "register" with the master when the slave first starts?
