I installed XFree86 V 4.0 and was really suprised and happy the way it took advantage of my RivaTNT2 video card. I then decided to install True Type Fonts, sigh. I followed the Font HOWTO by Donovan Rebbechi, Fonts in XFree86, the mailing list and everyone I know who has a linux box. No luck! This looks as though it's going to become as much of a job as learning to set up PPP AND SUSE PPP was. I did not get any True Type Fonts and when I started to search for the reason I soon discovered why. The following is from /var/log/XFree86.1.log. (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/misc" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/75dpi" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/100dpi" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/misc" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/75dpi" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/100dpi" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (**) FontPath set to "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" Funny, when I go to that directory I find those files that X cannot find. I then thoiught that maybe there was something wrong with the font server xfs. Bingo! The following is from running the command; /usr/X11R6/bin/xfs. /usr/X11R6/bin/xfs: error in loading shared libraries: libXfont.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. I then tried to find the file using both "find" and "locate" They were absolutely right. No such file or directory. According to the Font HOWTO, there should be a font server named xfsft. This does not exist either. I know suse said they have a "limited" distribution of XFree86 availabe on thier website and that is what I downloaded but does that mean it's crippled? Is it possible to get these utilities and add them to this program? I am at sea on this and would appreciate any help on where I may obtain additional documentation to help me silve my problem.
