Can someone please help me to enable CGI scripting so I can carry on learning perl and CGI? Also I would be very interested in knowing a little more about this mod_perl, so a reference to a web site would be helpful please. I have tried to read the manuals and have looked at some configuration files, but thought I would ask before I screwed it up. I do have a tendency to do that on times.
Put the configuration file(s) under version control (RCS, SCCS, CVS, etc.) before messing with them. That way you can always go back to a previous version that worked. Look in your Apache (or other Web server) configuration file for permissions for CGI scripts. The configuration that came with SuSE 6.1 (/etc/httpd/httpd.conf) only allows CGI execution from certain directories (look for the ExecCGI permission). You may wish to add additional directories or move your CGI scripts to a directory already allowed. I found O'Reilly's book on Apache, "Apache - The Definitive Guide", quite good.
