That looks more like a problem with your kernel. Do you have an alternative kernel? When you installed your kernel, did you also install the system.map as well as the relevant modules. My failsafe procedure is to take the original kernel installed, and copy it as vmlinuz.ok, do the same with system.map. Then use make bzlilo modules modules-install. Since the above command backs up the current kernel, and installs the modules, I generally don't get a mismatched situation.
