sounds like a reasonable group project. I imagine you can use anythign to establishthe ppp connection. there are a few ways I think. It woulnd' be too difficult to setup a script that users can use to initialize the the dial up. after that it would be ip chains, and the appropriate proxy software. do you know if wvdial allows a dial on demand. ei. if iexplorer on another machine request the proxy it will initnialize the ppp connection Rowan [TSS] Gerber Scientific Products http://www.gspinc.com

I'm doing the same thing Rowan plus setting up a news server. It looks to me like we should be able to use wvdial as per the manual to establish the ppp connection but I'm having trouble getting it to run ppp - disconnects saying ppp failure. Anyway you can try it - it's in Yast under systema admin/networks/configure ppp connection and 'should' be pretty straighforward. Give it a go and let me know how you go.
I follow the list but I'd appreciate you ccing me any updates on getting proxy going.
Regards, Graeme.

I'm running SuSE6.3 and i'm looking to run my server as a dial up proxy server. basically the modem would be my connection to the net, and eth0 the connection to my local lan, which has 4 systems on it. I figure I will be using a combination of ipchains and dial up script. what sthe best route to getting this up and going
