Hello Linux folks! I need to connect my junky 486-DX2 PC to my 100Mbit network. Unfortunatelly I couldn't find ISA 10/100 NIC. Looks like they don't exist.
They do, but they aren't practical (the ISA bus is to slow) and cost allot. Intel does have an ISA 100 NIC running anywhere from 75-120 bucks.
I can't use 10/100 PCI NIC since 486-DX2 motherboard doesn't have PCI slots. On my network I use 10/100 Hub and all other computers have 10/100 Mbit PCI NICs as well. If I install ISA 10 Mbit network card in this old junk PC will it slow down my whole network?
Not the whole network, just the 486 with a 10mbs nic. Any data going to or from the 486 10/NIC will be slower than if you send data to/from anyother machine with a 100mbs nic.
Thanks for any suggestions and your time, Alex
