Reiserfs is a new Linux journaling file system developed by Hans Reiser and his team of developers. My understanding is that SuSE is helping with the development of this exciting file system. The advantage of a journaling file system is that a crash is less likely to corrupt the hard drive and a recovery is thousands of time faster. Journaling file systems are the de-facto standard in high end Unix boxes (Solaris, AIX, SGI, etc.) Recently, they started to appear for Linux as well. SGI and IBM released the source code for their journaled file system recently so I am sure we will see few more in the future. In the reiserfs web site, they publish benchmarks that show that reiserfs is also faster then ext2. Few weeks after the release of 6.3, SuSE put all the files you need to use reiserfs on their ftp site with instructions on how to use them in the online support DB (search for reiserfs). You can find (a lot) more information at http://devlinux.com/projects/reiserfs/ Avi "Reid, Rowan (GSP)" wrote:

Yesterday I decided to make the move to reiserfs. I downloaded the patches, burned the CD and converted my 17 GB (except for

Well you should thank Hans Reiser and his team of developers for this!
:)
But I must agree - ReiserFS is great. I have converted all my boxes (private and at work) to it and it runs flawlessly.
Love it...
Is there a possiblity of quota support soon that you know of?
