Actually a winmodem is a modem that uses software to do its job. Plug and play modems can work under Linux as long as they are supported. Perhaps if the ori9ginal poster wpuld tell us what modem he has, then we could help him more. Victor On Fri, 24 Mar 2000, Keith Pettit wrote:

I am new on the Linux-OS and trying to configure my hardware. I installed Suse 6.3 and have a lot of setup-problems. One of them is that setup does not detect my modem. I tryed with yast en setup in KDE but "no modem"
In Windows i can find my modem at Com1, wich works perfect. I use a IBM aptiva with AMD k6-2 processor Note that i am a starter in Linux and would like to get help from someone who will "guide" me trough the modem-setup
Richard.
