undertake many of the tasks in which Linux obviously outshines other OS possibilities.
What task, pray tell, are you talking about? I'll show you how it's done. PT has actually shamed me a few times in public proving me wrong...(thank you again, Mr. Thomas ;).
After careful thought and consideration (well, more than I gave before I rapped off that last smoldering ember of an email ;), a small retraction and some clarification is in order. The only thing I've found that *isn't* possible is adding APM or CPU-specific support to a special kernel. That does require a recompile. If, for instance, you are adding IDE-SCSI emulation to the Special kernel so that you may operate a CD-R/RW device, you need only add one item to /etc/lilo.conf and change one line in /etc/modules.conf. If you need to add UDMA66 capabilities to a kernel where / is mounted on a normal disk, you need only to install the Special kernel. If you need diald to work (older versions required SLIP compiled *into* the kernel), I'd highly advise that you look at the wvdial.dod script. My question remains; what exactly are you trying to do? -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 x136 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
