The problem may be the letter assigned to the CDROM drive. If your linux partition was used before bye Windows, then the CDROM letter should have shifted since Win can't read ext2fs. Sometimes, this shift doesn't happen so that program which try to access the CDROM freeze. Solution : use the configuration panel and affect explicitely the good letter to the CDROM drive.
