Hi all, my goal was to realise multimonitorsupport with 2 vga-cards: an ATI rage pro a Matrox Millenium i have partial success... - I recompiled the kernel to firmly include both the atyfb and the matroxfb. #system boots up with ATI-output fine and colered dots on Matrox-screen #It finds my ATI, loads atyfb as fb0 and uses Matrox for fb1 #All boot output concerning framebuffer bootup pasted below. - I wrote a XF86Configfile containing pointers to the fb device, as described in suse's online sdb. - Manually started the XF86_FBDev and was greeted by the usual gray canvas...being even able to move the mouse - Renamed that XF86Config, and reinstalled my old (ATI-XF86Conf) version. - I started startx and got my usual afterstep on the ATI-card no prob. And on the other screen is the grey canvas. now, what can i do now.? i would like to have 2 commands startx and, say, starty, pointing to 2 different screens on two vga-cards. Where are the logical connections between the files involved (like /var/X/bin/X and /usr/X/bin/X and XF86Config and the lockfiles)? i realise that i will have to relink some things and find a possibility to tell the sripts *which* XF86Config to take. Will they both peacefuly exist on the same loopback device at the same portnumber? Anything else i might have forgotten?, hints? thx already, Alex dmesg output: ------------- atyfb: 3D RAGE PRO (BGA, AGP) [0x4742 rev 0x7c] 4M SGRAM, 14.31818 MHz XTAL, 230 Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 80x30 fb0: ATY Mach64 frame buffer device on PCI matroxfb: Matrox Millennium (PCI) detected matroxfb: MTRR's turned on matroxfb: 640x480x8bpp (virtual: 640x3276) matroxfb: framebuffer at 0x41800000, mapped to 0xc7008000, size 2097152 fb1: MATROX VGA frame buffer device fb1: initializing hardware -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
