Okay I've got ALSA 0.5.6 basically going. Everything seems to work from root. Realplayer/CD playing. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is KDE sounds. I tried turning on the kaudioserver but that hung up KDE on longing in. From the user level I've got realplayer working fine. Alsaplayer complains about a permission problem loading a file. Okay I think I've got that problem fixed. But it won't load a CD. KSCD loads the CD fine but won't output any sound. Wierd. Oh well realplayer is the main thing for now. FWIW. The modules.conf file seems to have changed with 0.5.6 versus the file created by alsaconf. Also I went and changed a bunch of permissions in /dev to get things working from the user level. Basically anything in the audio group got changed. Once all those changes got made I managed to get to this point.
